ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that bilateral engagement between Pakistan and Germany would continue to broaden on the basis of mutual respect and interest.
He said on Sunday that both the countries had the same stated objectives of peace and stability in the region. According to the message received from Germany, the speaker expressed these views while talking to Bundestag President Prof Norbert Lammert in Berlin. The Bundestag is the German parliament.
The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere. Both the leaders agreed for strengthening of Pak-German friendship through enhancing parliamentary and people-to-people contacts. Ayaz Sadiq said that Pakistan valued its decades’ old friendship with Germany and strongly desired to strengthen its parliamentary and economic cooperation.
He also said that Germany had been a vocal and staunch supporter of Pakistan and had always extended assistance when needed. The speaker also held meetings with Committee on Economic Cooperation and Development, Committee on Defence; Committee on Foreign Affairs and the South Asia Friendship group.
Prof Norbert also hosted a lunch in honour of the speaker. Ayaz Sadiq also delivered a lecture at the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP), the prestigious think tank, and expounded Pakistan’s position on the key foreign policy issues.
During his interactions in Germany, the speaker discussed full spectrum of relations with his interlocutors. Regional and international issues of mutual concern also came under discussion. He reiterated the resolve of the government for a peaceful neighborhood and its desire to settle all outstanding political and security issues in the region.
